Weekly MCU Review for 7/30

Another week, and more MCU news!  Comic-Con concluded this week, so we've got a lot of new stuff to talk about.  Put some ketchup on your eggs, and catch-up on your Marvel news!

Mostly MCU Reviews

My articles from the week

This week I reviewed one of my top-3 MCU movies, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.  It’s getting really hard to keep it that high, though, with Civil War, Avengers, Thor, Ant-Man, and Guardians all vying for a spot in the Top 3

Here is my summary of the results from this year’s Comic-Con.  In some ways it exceeded my expectations; in others it still left me wanting.

This is the first in a two-part series on Tie-Ins.  Next week will be a look ahead to potential Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 tie-ins.

And here is the trailer:
Thoughts?

I guess we don’t have to call Maury:  the question of Star Lord’s daddy has been answered!  And it is… Ego the Living Planet, played by Kurt Russell!  How?  Who knows…

Elizabeth Debicki is in fact playing Ayesha in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Check out this concept art for the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming:

I’d say he looks pretty cool, even if Marvel had to update the suit.

In addition to Vulture, both the Tinkerer and Shocker may also appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Hopefully Marvel can do a better job of juggling multiple villains that Sony has.

Tony Revolori will be playing Flash Thompson in Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Might he eventually get all symbioted-up as Agent Venom?  I sure hope so!

According to Kevin Feige, there are sequels planned for Spider-Man: Homecoming, and they are taking cues from Harry Potter for how to work sequels which highlight a year of a group of students’ life.

This sure makes it look like they will be working some “Planet Hulk” elements into Thor: Ragnarok:

Are you excited for this?

Marvel has officially renamed Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 as…  Avengers: Infinity War.  Not much of a shocker there.  No word on what they are renaming the second one yet.  Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity Stones, and Infinity Watch are all options.  But I think Infinity Watch would be better as a follow-up to that fourth Avengers movie.

Marvel officially has its Captain (Marvel) and it is… Brie Larson!

Would you like to see Joss Whedon direct a Black Widow movie?  I know I would!

Positive Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. news:  with the Inhumans movie delays, AoS is free to use more of the “classic characters” such as the Royal Family.

Negative Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. news:  Adrianne Palicki signed on as the female lead in a new FOX series.  I guess this means there isn’t much hope of Bobbi and Hunter returning to AoS—though it’s always possible for them to make a guest appearance at some point.

Here are the titles for the first three episodes of Luke Cage:

“Moment of Truth”
“Code of the Streets”
“Who’s Gonna Take the Weight?”

Unsurprising news:  We won’t get more Daredevil or Jessica Jones until 2018.  Honestly, that’s what I was expecting.  2017 we’ll get Iron Fist and The Defenders, and in 2018 we’ll get Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and maybe even The Punisher, too.

Why didn’t Netflix pick up Agent Carter?  Business.  Apparently international distribution deals are weird.  Darn.

Anything not related to the MCU that I find interesting

The answer to which new Marvel TV production Joe Quesada would be showing off on Saturday:  Legion.  Considering all the MCU projects in the pipeline, I’m actually disappointed that it’s the non-MCU one, but it makes sense that they would debut it this way.

No real surprise here:  Ben Affleck is confirmed to direct the Batman solo film.

Katie Cassidy signed a deal with WB allowing her to appear in all of the Arrowverse shows.  Huh.  And I thought Arrow killed Laurel off…

Warner Bros. is indeed making a Justice League Dark animated movie, and Matt Ryan will reprise his role by voicing John Constantine.
