Weekly MCU Review for 8/13

Another week, and more MCU news!  Marvel and Netflix have a lot of stuff going on, particularly with Luke Cage only about 6 weeks away.  Put some ketchup on your eggs, and catch-up on your Marvel news!

My articles from the week

This week, instead of looking back at one of the movies, I looked back at Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2.  Specifically, I finally realized just what it is about the second half of that season that bugs me so much.  And here it is.  Do you agree?

Here is a list of magic users from the comics that I think could fit really well into the MCU after Doctor Strange.  Who do you want to see?

Michael Chernus has been cast as the Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Here is a new poster for Luke Cage and here is the new trailer!

Here is a tentative confirmation that Rachael Taylor will be back as Trish Walker for The Defenders!  And I think it’s about even odds that she will be suiting up as Hellcat for the miniseries.  After all, it’s a decent chance that each of the eponymous Defenders will bring a “plus-one” to the party:  Daredevil and Punisher, Jessica Jones and Hellcat, Luke Cage and Misty Knight, Iron Fist and Colleen Wing.

Jeph Loeb is teasing the idea of a spinoff Misty Knight series.  At the same time, though, he also says that “We have to be careful that we’re not becoming the Marvel channel on Netflix.”  Honestly, I would have absolutely no problem with a full-on “Marvel-Netflix Channel.”

Rumor Has It that Marvel and Netflix are working on four new series which would (presumably) follow The Defenders for which they have shot “pilot shorts,” and one of these is White Tiger.  According to the rumor, this would follow Angela del Toro, who was namedropped in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it Easter egg in Jessica Jones.  I would love to see this, as she would be the first Hispanic hero from Marvel comics (excluding Joey, who is an original character created for AoS) to appear on screen in the MCU.  No guarantees—after all, this is the second rumor of Marvel and Netflix working on four new series, and the only one out of that group to get greenlit was The Punisher.  I'll talk a little more about this either this evening or tomorrow, but for now what are your thoughts on this rumor?

Anything not related to the MCU that I find interesting

Warner Bros. has placed a Man of Steel sequel into “active development.”  Huh.  And I thought Superman was dead…  It’s a good bet that this sequel will see the eponymous Man of Steel resurrected, but personally I think I’d rather see a take on the “Reign of the Supermen” story arc from the comics.  In other words, let Supes stay dead for a bit before (inevitably) bringing him back!  Am I off-base on that?  Would you rather they revive him right away?

Star Wars Rebels will return on Saturday, September 24, at 8:30 PM ET.

It turns out that the rumors are true:  Star Trek: Discovery does take place before The Original Series, a decade to be precise.  It will also follow the lieutenant commander instead of the captain.  Are you excited for it?

So Sony is going to give The Chronicles of Narnia another try with The Silver Chair.  It sounds like this is going to be something of a soft reboot of the series, considering how poorly both Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader were received.  Honestly, if it is good I might see it, but it will have to do a lot.  Caspian was such a disappointment that I didn’t see Dawn Treader and have not regretted that decision for a moment!
