Weekly MCU Review for September 9

Another week, and more MCU news!  Still not all that much news to report since Inhumans will not begin on ABC for another few weeks and we still have a couple months until Thor: Ragnarok.  Put some ketchup on your eggs, and catch-up on your Marvel news!

Mostly MCU Reviews

My articles from the week

First up for the week is an open letter to the powers behind Marvel’s Inhumans.  Here’s the sneak preview:  the fact that the IMAX release isn’t being received well doesn’t mean the sky is falling.

Next is my review of the third episode of The Defenders.

MCU News

Links to news articles and blog posts about the MCU

James Gunn teased that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will come out in 2020.  That makes a lot of sense for at least 2 reasons.  First, Gunn has previously hinted that after Infinity War, the MCU will go cosmic.  Second, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a movie that can be announced before Infinity War debuts without revealing anything about how those movies will conclude—aside from the fact that there will still be a Galaxy left to Guard.  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will not necessarily have the same cast/roster as the previous two, and in fact may not even involve any of the original Guardians.  It could easily focus on the “original” team (the Ravager captains) picking up the pieces after Quill and the gang get murdered gruesomely by Thanos and his minions!  I suspect that any movie announcements between now and May 2019 will be for either teams or “legacy” characters (for example, a “Captain America” movie doesn’t confirm that Steve Rogers survives).

Nick Blood will be reprising his role as Lance Hunter in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5.  No word on whether Bobbi Morse will be back, too, but I’m definitely glad to see Hunter.

News from Around Geekdom

Anything not related to the MCU that I find interesting

FOX has hired Drew Goddard to write and direct X-Force, which looks to be a sequel of sorts to Deadpool 2, with Deadpool and Cable leading the team.

DC’s Titans added two new cast members:  Alan Ritchson as Hawk and Minka Kelly as Dove.  It sounds like if they are really well received, DC might greenlight a Hawk and Dove spinoff.

Colin Trevorrow has stepped down from directing Star Wars Episode IX.

This trailer for the final season of Star Wars Rebels looks awesome!  I’m definitely excited for October 16!
