This half-season saw Coulson and S.H.I.E.L.D. matching their wits and resources against the Advanced Threat Containment Unit, led by Rosalind Price. Where S.H.I.E.L.D.'s goal was to contain and train the newly-transformed Inhumans (which they succeeded in doing with Joey Gutierrez), the A.T.C.U.'s intentions were less clear before Rosalind explained that they were attempting to find a cure for being Inhuman. However, we discovered this to be a smokescreen put up by Gideon Malick, the last remaining Old Guard Head of Hydra, who orchestrated events so he could become the A.T.C.U.'s Science Division Head. In this position he removed all the Inhumans they "acquired" to a safe location and experimented on the A.T.C.U.'s employees to transform more Inhumans.
Why was Malick doing this? To build an army for a powerful Inhuman/Hydra god to command as he takes over the world!
This Hydra god is a super-powerful and super-ancient Inhuman who was sent to a different planet through the Monolith millennia earlier. And this happens to be the same planet to which Simmons was sent. Fitz succeeded in getting her back (something Hydra's been trying to do for centuries), and Hydra (Malick and Ward) want to use Fitz and Simmons to get IT back to Earth. And at the end of the midseason finale, IT does succeed in returning to Earth in Ward's dead body (now named "SquidWard" by Reddit!).
During the midseason finale we also get to see the Secret Warriors (Daisy, Lincoln, and Joey) fighting together against Hydra.
So there's the half-season in a nutshell. Now I will open it up for you: what was your favorite part of the half-season? Who do you want to see join the Secret Warriors? What elements are you most confused or curious about from the half-season? If I see a lot of something I may talk about it at some point during the midseason break.
Something else to think about: The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode 3x12 (the second episode after they return) will be the 100th episode of Marvel TV (including ABC and Netflix). To celebrate I'm working on a Top 10 list of the best episodes/moments in Marvel TV. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!
