Weekly MCU Review for 8/29

Another week, and more MCU news!  Civil War finished filming, sides were announced, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. made some announcements, and Jeremy Renner opened up at Wizard Con.  Put some ketchup on your eggs, and catch-up (*ducks*) on your Marvel news!

Mostly MCU Reviews

My articles from the week

First up for the week is my review of Agent Carter season 1, episode 4, “The Blitzkrieg Button.”  What did you think of this episode?

On Tuesday I published my thoughts on the newly-announced Marvel’s Most Wanted TV series, starring Bobbi and Hunter.  What do you think the show will be about?

Also this week:  my reviews of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 5, “A Hen in the Wolf House,” and episode 6, “A Fractured House.”

Finally, some theories of what we will see in Phase 3.

Iron Man may be breaking out the Bleeding Edge armor for Civil War.  In the comics this armor was actually contained within Tony’s body, but I highly doubt we will see this in Civil War.  After all, that was only possible thanks to Tony’s use of Extremis to fashion a nanosuit (the suit which goes under the suit and allows him to control the armor) which was bonded to his body.  But I suppose anything’s possible.  Do you think Tony will go full-machine?

In addition to Peter Parker himself, another Spider-Man character may be appearing in Civil War.  Warning:  this is a potential spoiler.  Not really, though; they’ve only cast a couple of Spider-Man characters so far…

In other Civil War news, filming has officially wrapped.  They will probably have reshoots and post-credits scenes to film still, but the bulk of the work it done.  Now they just have to finish all the effects and the like and count down to May!

Now that they are finished filming, Marvel is ramping up their advertising for Civil War, releasing team photos for the two sides this week.  I definitely find the teams interesting, and I can’t wait to see some of these fights!  There are a few characters who haven’t been included yet, so there’s still some mystery to the movie.

Here’s an Age of Ultron Easter egg which reveals potential plot points for Civil War or Black Panther:  Klaue was hired to assassinate T’Chaka and has family history with Wakanda.  How do you think this will play out in the MCU?

Mads Mikkelson is reportedly up for a villain role in Doctor Strange.  Who do you think he could be playing?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. revealed a new season 3 synopsis which offers some major details.  Among other things, Constance Zimmer’s character is revealed to be leading the “Advanced Threat Containment Unit.”  ScreenRant suggests based on this synopsis that the ATCU will have 4 members, including Lash and a new Inhuman, but I don’t see that happening.  My reading is that Lash will be a representative of an entirely new Inhuman group, and the new Inhuman (Joey) will be a target whom all three groups are trying to find and recruit.  What do you think of all this news?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has also announced the casting of Matt Willig to play the Inhuman Lash, who has the ability to absorb and release energy.  If his arc follows the comics, he will probably be an antagonist along the lines of Jiaying, someone whose primary desire is to ensure the safety of the Inhumans, but with the added twist that he believes the Inhuman line should remain pure… meaning that he will kill any transformed Inhuman who does not fit his idea of “purity.”  What do you think of this casting?

Here is an unofficial synopsis for Luke Cage.  It looks very close to his origin story from the comics:  wrongly convicted after being framed by a so-called friend, Cage volunteers for an experiment that gives him super strength and impenetrable skin.  He returned to Hell’s Kitchen and becomes a hero for hire.  This is still unofficial, so take it with a grain of salt, but I’d be happy if the series followed this synopsis.  What do you want to see from this series?

Jeremy Renner said at Wizard Con that he would be up for an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. appearance as long as it could be filmed near his kids in L.A.  Yes, please!  I’d love to see Hawkeye mix it up with the Secret Warriors against Hydra!

Also at Wizard Con, Jeremy Renner suggested that he doesn’t think Marvel plans to have the Guardians and Avengers cross paths any time soon, between GotG2 and Infinity War.  When do you want to see them cross over?

Renner also said that he will not be wearing a mask as Hawkeye.  But to make up for the lack of mask, here is his new suit for Civil War.

I have to say, I really like it.  Do you want to see him in a suit similar to Hawkeye’s original comic book suit?

Rumor:  Marvel is working on a female Blade movie focusing on the original’s daughter.  Oh, and there’s speculation that Wesley Snipes’ Blade will be back as her father.  What do you think of this plan?

News from Around Geekdom

Anything not related to the MCU that I find interesting

X-Men: Apocalypse has wrapped filming.  What are you most excited to see in this movie?

Suicide Squad has also wrapped filming this week.  That’s a lot of upcoming movies finishing up.  Which one are you most excited for?

Wow.  Brandon Routh’s Atom suit costs more than a house.

Would you like to see Nathan Fillion suit up as Booster Gold?  I’m a fan of him, so I’d be up for that.

Independence Day: Resurgence has wrapped filming.  Are you excited for this movie?

So Peter Cushing will be appearing in Rogue One from beyond the grave.  While it’s impressive that they are able to digitally recreate him, I’m not sure how I feel about taking a dead actor and bringing him back to life.  But what are your thoughts?

Amazon and Paramount are turning Galaxy Quest into a TV series.  Ha!  As long as they embrace the campiness and spoofiness of the original movie, I’m all for this.  Are you going to watch it?
