SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
I’m just going to go
ahead and say SPOILERS right off the bat because the entire premise of this
article is one big SPOILER for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3, episode
5, “4,722 Hours.” Of course, considering
that this particular spoiler has been breaking the Internet for the last
several days…
With that being said,
let’s get into it.

All-New, All-Different Marvel: The Rest
Marvel announced last
year that they would be completely rebooting their universe following the
Secret Wars/Battleworld event. As part of this reboot they are going to be
focusing on some new and altered characters, particularly those whose TV and
movie rights are owned by Marvel Studios. This is leading Marvel to focus its
efforts on promoting the Inhumans while downplaying the mutants, as well as to
the splitting up of the Fantastic Four, with Human Torch joining the Inhumans
and the Thing joining the Guardians of the Galaxy. So because the All-New,
All-Different Marvel is going all-in on Marvel Studios properties, I started to
wonder if some of the other characters in the A-N, A-D Marvel might be getting
a push for a future movie or TV appearance. As such, this series will look at
all the characters in the All-New, All-Different Marvel lineup whose
live-action rights are owned by either Marvel Studios or Sony and who have not
appeared in a movie yet.
Some of these are
characters I’ve written about in the past, so I will include links to those
articles and only provide relatively brief summaries.
If there are any
additional characters that you would like to see me cover in this series, let
me know in the comments.
This is the last
article I expect to write in this miniseries. In this one I’ll cover all the
remaining characters owned by Marvel or Sony and which are getting their own
titles in the All-New, All-Different Marvel lineup. If there’s one you expected
to see but haven’t seen, check either of the team articles, linked at the
bottom of the page. If you think I missed someone, let me know in the comments!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3, Episode 5, "4,722 Hours" REVIEW (SPOILERS!)
You know, I think “4,722
Hours” (3x05) was exactly the episode I wanted to see. The focus was entirely
on Simmons and her experiences on the planet. We learned exactly how she
survived 6½ months on the planet and why she needs to get back. And along the
way this episode offers some incredible character development for Simmons. All of
the acting was superb throughout the episode, and aside from a very few things I
loved just about everything about the planet. After several episodes with an
enormous number of plots going on at the same time, I think that an episode
with a laser focus on a single plot was exactly what we needed.

Who Is Lash?
The most-recent episode
of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., “Devils You Know” (3x04), revealed a
surprising fact about the main villain of the season, Lash. I won’t say exactly what that is until after
the jump, but suffice it to say that this changes everything with regard
to this character.
If you’ve read my
article from the summer about Lash’s comic book origins,
you may remember the list of abilities which he has in the comics: energy absorption, energy manipulation (i.e.
the ability to literally disintegrate a person), and superhuman strength and
the like. Thus far Agents of
S.H.I.E.L.D. has retained much of the same powers for him: he shoots energy from his hands, is extremely
durable (able to take full hits from Lincoln and Daisy simultaneously), and is super
strong. We haven’t yet seen him absorb
energy, but they haven’t shown anything to indicate that he can’t. However, “Devils You Know” revealed Lash to
possess an ability which his character didn’t have in the comics, and which has
potentially massive ramifications for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. What is that ability? It is:

All-New, All-Different Marvel: Nova Corps Idea
As I mentioned in my
article this morning,
part of the “All-New, All-Different Marvel and the MCU” series, while thinking
about Nova I came up with what I think is a really cool idea for both the Nova
Corps and the character of Nova (both Richard Rider and Sam Alexander). Be warned, though: it’s wild!
As we all know, the
Nova Corps in Guardians of the Galaxy looked vastly different from the
Nova Corps we know from the comics. In
the comics, the Nova Corps has vast powers of flight, energy manipulation, and
the like. In the movie, they are
glorified space cops. And for us to get
a Nova character similar to the one in the comics, that needs to change. Here is how it would happen:
This idea involves at
least 2 movie tie-ins in addition to a TV series of at least 4 seasons, with
potential for a third movie at the end.
Please read all the way to the end before dismissing it completely, even
if it is a complete long shot.

in the MCU in a minor role and how those characters could be further expanded
on. I’ll also talk about Blade, who has been rumored (by Wesley Snipes) for an
appearance in the MCU for quite some time. Finally, I will also summarize the
characters that I’ve talked about in previous articles outside this series.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3, Episode 4, "Devils You Know" REVIEW (SPOILERS)
This episode of Agents
of S.H.I.E.L.D., “Devils You Know,” went very Inhumans-heavy, but at the
same time succeeded in continuing and expanding the Hydra storyline. Overall I
enjoyed everything in this episode, and for some reason it didn’t feel like too
much. It’s not like there was any less going on in this episode, though the
Fitz-and-Simmons plot was dialed back substantially to make room for Hydra. I
wonder if the reason this doesn’t feel like too much while last week did is
because the Fitz-and-Simmons subplot took a backseat and we got substantially
more development from Hunter and May. Maybe they just found the right balance
between the 2 main plots. Whatever it is, it worked pretty well this
episode—but I still think the spinoff (taking a few characters and plots away
to let this show focus in on just 1 or 2 plots) can’t happen soon enough.

200th Post: National or State-Sponsored Marvel Heroes and the MCU
This is the 200th
article that I have published on my blog in right around 7½ months. Wow! A lot
of blogs don’t last that long, and a lot of blogs don’t publish that much. I’d
like to think that the reason I’ve kept this going so long is because I have interesting
things to say, and the fact that there are people who check out my blog (35k+ views to-date) and
like what I’m saying doesn’t hurt either! When I was looking at my publishing
schedule, I saw that my 200th article would be either the
Expectations for tonight’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Review for it. Well,
I didn’t publish anything on Sunday (I already talked about the most
interesting thing for tonight’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. over the summer:
Lash’s comic book history),
meaning that #200 would be tomorrow’s review. At first I thought that would be
appropriate; my first article was an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. review
(“Aftershocks,”
2x11), so what better 200th post than another review? However, the
more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of writing a special article
for my 200th post. So here it is: my 200th article!
This is something I’ve
been thinking about for quite a while but didn’t think I had the facts for
until now. I put a request on Reddit,
and that generated some interest, so here are a lot of characters I knew about
already or found in the course of my research, as well as some additional
suggestions from a couple Redditers.
Have you noticed that
there are a lot of Marvel heroes who seem to be the embodiment of their
respective nations? Captain America is the first hero to come to mind; his
outfit and shield are covered in American symbols which are only
slightly-more-obviously-American than his character traits of loyalty,
patriotism, and honor. However, Captain America is not the only Marvel hero to
be very closely-associated with his or her nation and even depicted acting as
an official agent of the nation.
Here are all the
so-called “National Heroes” that I could find. This is a bit of a subjective
list, as I was looking at a combination of criteria, primary among which is
acting as an official “agent of the state” in some capacity. However, there are
a couple who are not depicted as official agents but I would still consider to
be representing the ideals and values of their nation—“personifying the nation,”
if you will. At the end of the article I’m also going to answer the question: Is
there any scenario where we could see these “national heroes” in the MCU?

Rumor Has It: Moon Knight on Netflix
As mentioned in the Weekly
MCU Review, Rumor Has It that Marvel Netflix
is considering Moon Knight for an appearance in Netflix Phase 2, a rumor which
I already talked about a few weeks ago in
conjunction with the rest of the rumored four-series slate (Moon Knight,
The Punisher, Deathlok, and Spider-Woman). However, the
latest rumor is that Moon Knight could receive the Punisher treatment: a TV
series set up with an appearance in another character’s series. That’s the part
I want to talk about today.

Why Does Simmons "Have" to Go Back?
Who else was a little
surprised when Simmons desperately told Bobbi that she “has to go back” to that
planet? I think we were all assuming
that once she got back to Earth the focus would turn to her recovery, rather
than right back to the planet. That assumption
was only reinforced when the Monolith was destroyed in the process of Fitz and
Simmons returning to Earth. And now
Simmons wants to find a way back to the planet for some reason! Considering how much trouble Fitz went
through to get her back, she had better have a good reason for wanting to
return.
In thinking through
everything that has happened with Simmons, I came up with 3 logical reasons she
could have for needing to go back to the planet.

will be talking about those teams which have an equivalent in the MCU or will
appear shortly. This time around there
will be quite a few characters who have already appeared in the MCU or will
appear soon, so I will just mention them by name. For the purpose of this article I will be
including the Ultimates as an Avengers team because they originated as the
Ultimate Universe equivalent of the Avengers (however, this team is just
borrowing its name from the Ultimate Universe team). Also note that I am completely ignoring the
X-Men teams because there is just no way for them to appear in the MCU at this
time.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3, Episode 3, "A Wanted (Inhu)man" REVIEW (SPOILERS!)
It feels like Agents
of S.H.I.E.L.D. is doing a lot of juggling this season. There are about half a dozen different plots
running around this season, and they’re trying to do almost every single one of
them justice in each episode. Sometimes
it really seems to work; sometimes it feels like they’re trying to do too
much. This was one of those episodes
where it felt like there was maybe one too many plots being juggled. I liked all of the individual parts of the
episode, but I would have liked slightly more substance given to slightly less
plots.

half these series, so there’s not a lot to talk about for some of them.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3, Episode 2, "Purpose in the Machine" REVIEW (SPOILERS)
“Purpose in the
Machine” definitely continues the trend from the season premiere of including
multiple plots and subplots, but for some reason it does not feel too
crowded. Each subplot only gets a little
time, but they make the most of their time.
We get some good character development from a few of the characters, as
well as a lot of background on May and what she’s been doing since the season
finale. Also, the Monolith question gets
solved quite definitively, and it’s really cool.

Quickie: The Post-Infinity War Avengers Lineup
Remember this? I think I've gotten better since then. |
This is a very quick
article in response to yesterday’s “Screen Junkies Movie Fight,” in which the
fighters argued about their dream lineup for the Avengers following Avengers:
Infinity War. If you want to check
out the Movie Fight, here is the
link; the Avengers fight is at 26:48.
For a quick summary,
here are the lineups they gave along with my thoughts on each one. At the end I will give my pitch for the
Avengers following Infinity War. Before
we get started, however, I’d recommend that you look back at my “Team Compositions”
article from April (yes, I really am getting my money’s worth from that
article!). Look back at that and you'll be better-equipped to consider what kinds of characters should be on a team.

Nice to See You Again, Professor
The Great Asgardian Warrior Image Courtesy marvel.wikia.com |
In case you didn’t
notice from the episode photos released last week or teaser at the end of the season
premiere, a character from the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is
going to be appearing in the second episode of this season, “The Purpose in the
Machine.” This character has a unique
perspective on alien artifacts and the history of interaction between humans
and aliens, making him the perfect consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D. to bring in to
find out exactly what the Monolith is and what happened to Simmons.
That character is
Professor Elliot Randolph, who made his debut in the episode “The Well” (AoS
1x08).
Because so many people
stopped watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. early in its run and have since
returned—and also for the benefit of any new people who started watching during
season 2 or 3—I am going to offer a very simple biography of Professor Randolph
so you will not be lost when he shows up in the episode.
Warning: There will (obviously) be spoilers for “The
Well,” so don’t be surprised. There are
also a few spoilers for other season 1 episodes, as well as the season 3
premiere, “Laws of Nature.”

Marvel's Damage Control
Marvel TV has
reportedly ordered a pilot
for Damage Control, which will be a half-hour comedy series airing on
ABC and developed by Ben Karlin. This is
in addition to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff series Marvel’s
Most Wanted, starring Adrianne Palicki as Bobbi Morse and Nick Blood as
Lance Hunter. Presumably, the TV series
rumored to be in the works from John Ridley is still a thing, too.
In other words, next
year we could see no less than five Marvel series on ABC! Wow, that pretty much takes up every night of
the week… But that’s a completely
different topic!
For now, because I doubt
there are a lot of people who know what Damage Control is, here is a quick
summary of what it is, who is involved, and what we might see them doing on the
series.
Nickel Summary: Damage Control is a company that repairs and
cleans up property damage caused by fights between superheroes and super-villains. Oh, and there was a Damage Control Easter egg
near the end of Iron Man, that the company was repairing the damage
caused by the final battle.

Here are my

of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3, episode 1, “Laws of Nature.” What did you think of the season premiere?
Agent Carter
and “feminism.” Thoughts?
This is the first
article in a new series: The All-New,
All-Different Marvel and the MCU. Up first
are the Spider-Verse characters
and how—if at all—they may appear in the MCU.
Which do you want to see in the MCU?
MCU News
Links to news
articles and blog posts about the MCU
Anthony Mackie has said
that he doesn’t think Marvel needs a replacement Captain America in the
MCU. He said that he thinks he or
Sebastian Stan would make a good Cap, but if that were to happen then there’d
be no Falcon or Bucky. Of course, Stan
himself says that he should replace Cap. Do you
think Marvel should have someone replace Steve Rogers at some point? Personally, I prefer that option over
recasting the role.
Actually, Anthony
Mackie said that if he could play any other character in the MCU, it would be
the Hulk! That would be an interesting storyline, to
say the least…
Chris Evans suggested at the
Salt Lake City Comic-Con that he doesn’t think there’s a clear bad guy in Captain
America: Civil War. And that’s a
good thing: we want to be able to
identify with both sides. However, Stan
Lee is Team Cap. Which team are you on?
Chloe Bennet says that
she thinks Quake will side with Captain America
in the Civil War because “Iron Man is not really for her.” I have to say that I would agree with her
reasoning: I suspect that Captain
America’s position is more favorable to the new Inhumans, and I suspect that
Daisy’s arc in season 3 will involve fighting for the rights of new Inhumans. What do you think of her reasoning?
The rumors that Doctor
Strange will not include an origin story were evidently incorrect. According to Kevin Feige, Stephen Strange’s
origin is interesting and unique enough for them to include it. And considering that very few—apart from
hardcore comic nerds—know who he is, I think it makes sense to give something
of an origin. However, it’s not entirely
clear yet if we will get an origin like Iron Man (where the whole thing
is an origin story), Ant-Man (where it’s a new character’s origin taking
on an established mantle), or Daredevil (where the origin is told in
flashback as the character is undergoing a major change/transformation in
accepting his role). Which do you want
to see?
Here
are some comments from Kevin Feige about the MCU Spider-Man. Essentially, they’ve been keeping options
open for working him into their universe all along (which makes sense). He also says that they are going to focus on
also making a good standalone film for him.
Basically, he’s saying exactly what we thought he’d say.
Taiki Waititi is
rumored to be in talks to
direct Thor: Ragnarok.
More comments from the
realm of “No, Duh” (seriously, it’s like the third option on the Bifrost): crossover between the MCU movies and TV
series is “inevitable.” Based on the timing of movie productions,
Phase Three seems like the earliest that they could really start doing major
crossovers, since most of Phase Two was well into production before Agents
of S.H.I.E.L.D. was even announced.
Among others, I think that Thor: Ragnarok (Lorelei) and [The
Spectacular] Spider-Man (Daredevil and Kingpin) are the two movies with the
most potential for TV characters to show up, though a nod to the Secret
Warriors in Captain America: Civil War wouldn’t be amiss. When and how do you think crossover will start
to happen?
According to Kevin
Feige we can’t expect a Captain Marvel casting announcement anytime soon
because they are still working on figuring out who exactly Carol Danvers will
be. Is this just a smokescreen?
Apparently Kevin Feige
does like
Ronda Rousey’s Captain Marvel campaign, though he wouldn’t say anything about
whether Marvel is considering her for the role.
Do you think she would make a good Carole Danvers?
Here
is the list of Infinity Stones revealed so far, as confirmed by Marvel:
Tesseract: Space StoneAether: Reality StoneOrb: Power StoneLoki's Staff/Vision's Head: Mind Stone
When do you think
we’ll see the Time and Soul Stones?
Avengers: Infinity
War will be “an end to some version of the team that we’ve come to know.” But it is not the end of the MCU. Again, not much surprise there.
Kevin Feige is taking
a slow approach to the Spider-Man corner of the MCU. They are focusing on a good first movie now,
and will think about spinoffs if/when the opportunity presents itself. However, he does think that Spider-Gwen is
“cool.” Personally, as I said earlier this week,
while I agree that the character is interesting, I think the alternate universe
events which created her are incompatible with a Peter Parker Spider-Man, so if
they did decide to turn Gwen Stacy into Spider-Woman, it would take a lot of
creative wrangling to get it done. Do
you want to see Spider-Gwen in the MCU?
If so, how should they fit her in?
According to Kevin
Feige, we may see Marvel return to the Marvel One-Shots sooner than later
because they don’t think they can push production beyond 3 movies per year. Yes, please!
When do you think
Daisy will start going by “Quake”?
Marvel TV has ordered a pilot for a
half-hour comedy series based on Damage Control to air on ABC. Are you interested in this?
According to Drew
Goddard, he first pitched Daredevil to Marvel as a movie,
but he and Marvel both decided it would make a better Netflix series: Daredevil doesn’t really need a
massive budget and alien spaceships, and Marvel doesn’t do R-Rated movies. Do you want to see a Marvel-set Daredevil
movie sometime?
Here is the third Jessica
Jones teaser trailer. It doesn’t show much. Hopefully we’ll get a full-length trailer
this weekend at/after New York Comic-Con.
S.J. Clarkson directed
the first 2 episodes
of Jessica Jones.
Latino Review found a
set photo of a Jessica Jones character filming on the set of Luke
Cage. And it’s not the one you would expect. I’m curious to see how they are going to
connect these two shows together.

ability to turn it around in the sequel:
after all, Marvel did the same thing with Iron Man 2 and Thor
2 both being received poorly but setting up well-received future
installments. Umm, Mark, you might want
to check your figures (as of publication):

In other words, each
of those Marvel Studios comparisons was at least 7 times better-received on
Rotten Tomatoes, and both made more domestically than Fant4stic
has made worldwide. You know what else
made almost as much domestically as Fant4stic has made worldwide? Fantastic Four—as in the one with
Jessica Alba as Invisible Woman and Captain America as the Human Torch. Another movie that has made more domestically
than Fant4stic has made worldwide:
Ant-Man. Even The
Incredible Hulk—arguably Marvel Studios’ worst movie to-date—has a 67%
Rotten Tomatoes score and made better numbers at the box office ($134.8 million
domestic, $263.4 million worldwide).
Do you really think
that Fant4stic 2 has a chance of improving on such dismal numbers,
especially since this is a thing:

See that downward
trend in box office totals? That’s not
good.
Millar also talked
about Old Man Logan
and the possible changes they will make to the comic book storyline. Among other things, they may replace Old
Hawkeye with Cyclops. How do you think
they will adapt Old Man Logan?
Anna Paquin confirmed
that her Rogue will not be in Gambit.
Does this mean they are recasting, or does it mean that Gambit’s
longtime love interest won’t be in his solo movie?
The first script for New
Mutants is complete. Are you excited for this movie?
Admiral Ackbar will be appearing
in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Excited to see him again?
Sarah Michelle Gellar
will be voicing a new Inquisitor
on Star Wars Rebels. I hope this character is as awesome as the first Inquisitor was!
Which of these new additions to Netflix
are you most excited for in October? I
have to say, I’m interested in that Finding Jesus show (to see just how
wrong it is), but none of these excite me as much as what’s coming in November!
(*cough*JessicaJones*cough*)
This is why I love my
state: Gov. Sam Brownback officially
declared October to be “Zombie Preparedness Month”
in Kansas.
