Agent Carter
returns tonight with “Smoke and Mirrors” (2x04) at 9:00 PM
Eastern/Pacific. What do we expect from tonight's episode?
What happened in
the last episode, “Better Angels”?
Peggy and Sousa
investigated the Isodyne explosion and discovered evidence that Wilkes was a
Russian spy (though Peggy dismissed it immediately as being too obvious). However, Thompson (who surprised them with a
visit) tried to push them into dropping the investigation and allowing him to
“protect” them by covering up the fact that Peggy was running all over
Hollywood with an accused Russian spy.
Peggy gets very heated at Thompson and storms off to keep investigating
on her own.
She and Jarvis visit
Howard on the set of his new movie, Kid Colt: Outlaw, a movie about a
comic book superhero who happens to be a real person (do you hear that sound?
That’s the sound of the fourth wall shattering). Howard explains that the pin she’d found is
from the Arena Club, a rich white men’s club.
Peggy uses Howard (and a herd of Howard’s lady friends/“production
assistants”) to sneak into the club and find evidence that they are rigging the
senatorial election. When she takes this
to Thompson (without the evidence), he laughs her off.
Peggy and Sousa discover
a gravitational anomaly around her, and when they visit Howard he uses a
chemical concoction to reveal… Wilkes, alive and well, albeit intangible. Howard makes him permanently visible, and the
two of them start working on making Wilkes tangible again.
Sousa discovers that
Whitney Frost is actually the stage name of Agnes Cully, the brilliant
scientist behind most of Isodyne’s work.
Meanwhile, Frost herself is suffering the aftereffects of Zero Matter
exposure in the form of a Zero Matter scar on her forehead and the ability to
suck hapless directors into her palms.
Thompson watches the
Isodyne film on Peggy’s insistence, hands it over to Masters, and discovers
from him that Peggy’s accusation of election rigging was correct.
Episode Synopsis
for “Smoke and Mirrors”:
“Agent Carter and the
SSR learn there's more than just a pretty face behind Hollywood star Whitney
Frost, Peggy's most dangerous foe yet.”
Continuing plot
points:
- Dottie the proto-Black Widow loose in America
- Whitney Frost as a different kind of foil for Peggy
- Corruption in Hollywood—the Council of Nine (are they connected to Ancient Hydra?)
- Darkforce/Zero Matter—a potential minor tie-in with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Doctor Strange
What I am looking
for tonight:
- More displays of Zero Matter ability from Frost
- Peggy will uncover more evidence of the Council’s work
- The Council will begin taking steps to neutralize Peggy as a threat
- Thompson will have to make a decision
- Wilkes’ intangibility will give him a major edge in helping Peggy uncover evidence against the Council
- Another showdown between Peggy and Frost
What would be
awesome but probably won’t happen:
We discover that
Howard is in the process of creating his own “Marvel Cinematic In-Universe”
with Marvel’s Western heroes.
So what are you
