Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 Finale EXPECTATIONS

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. its third season tonight with “Absolution” (3x21) at 9:00 PM Eastern/Pacific and “Ascension” (3x22) at 10:00 PM Eastern/Pacific.  What do we expect from tonight's massive, epic two-hour season finale?

What happened in the last episode, “Emancipation”?
Talbot came calling to persuade Coulson to register the Inhumans in compliance with the Sokovia Accords, though Coulson was less than enthusiastic.  Meanwhile, Daisy used her hacking skills to get into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s system and help Lincoln escape so he could be with her (planning all along that Hive would infect him the moment he arrived).  However, Lincoln, Coulson, and May concocted a plan to pull a switch and send Lash in Lincoln’s place, making a bet that Lash’s Terrigenesis-given purpose was to defeat Hive.  Unfortunately, he was unable to defeat Hive (though his energy powers did let him negate Hive’s parasites).  Before being killed by Hellfire, Lash was able to use his powers to “cure” Daisy of the parasites:  she returned to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Also in this episode:  Ward uses Daisy’s blood, Terrigen, and his parasites to turn a bunch of Watchdogs into Alpha Primitives!

Episode Synopsis for “Absolution” and “Ascension”:

“THE EPIC TWO-HOUR FINALE! #FallenAgent is revealed! It’s a showdown a season in the making as the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. try to thwart Hive’s master plan and take him down once and for all. But not everyone will survive the epic battle in the must-see Season 3 finale. Tune-in to find out who will live and who will die.”

Continuing plot points:

  • Coulson’s new hand
  • Daisy rebuilding the Inhumans and recruiting her Secret Warriors simultaneously
  • The “Terrigen Bomb—Fish Oil Version”
  • Ward/Hive recruiting Inhuman drones
  • The Sokovia Accords/Superhuman Civil War

What I am looking for tonight:

  • It’s the season finale, so it’s going to be epic, man!
  • I’m expecting them to really pull out all the stops on the action and effects
  • Someone is definitely going to die, but I do not think it will be Mack
    • They’ve all-but confirmed that everyone will have a close shave
  • I do want to see a better idea of what all Coulson has in his hand
    • He’s already displayed his Captain America energy shield; maybe next he’ll show off Iron Man’s repulsor ray!
  • I expect Daisy to somehow be instrumental in defeating Hive
  • Hive will be defeated, but I don’t think they will actually be able to kill him
    • Regardless, I strongly suspect that Brett Dalton’s run on the show is going to largely end tonight.  That guy has shown incredible range on this show, and it will be sad to lose him.  Sadly, however, I just don’t see Ward’s body surviving the climax of the finale.
  • The ending will set up the Secret Warriors to become an established team heading into season 4

What would be awesome but probably won’t happen:
I’m calling it right here:  Near the end of “Absolution” there will be a moment when it looks like a character is just about to die, but a portal will open right behind them and they’ll be saved by falling right back into it.  And that portal will mean that Eden Fesi, a.k.a. Manifold, will be joining the Secret Warriors in season 4.

Next awesome:  Coulson sends a backup team of enhanced agents into battle against Hive’s forces:  Randolph, Deathlok, Absorbing Man, and a secretly-healed Blizzard.  Following the battle, Coulson reveals that these guys (minus Creel) were his “Caterpillar Black” team and have been off running black ops across the globe for him all year without anyone knowing.

So what are you looking for in tonight’s episode?  What is there that you really want to see but may not see at all?

Note:  If you came here looking for a Daredevil review yesterday, I'm sorry I didn't get one up.  I signed up for Marvel Unlimited over the weekend.  Need I say more?
