Marvel’s Netflix programming continues tomorrow
with the release of Marvel’s Luke Cage. What do we expect from this
series?
Luke’s Previous Story:
We first met Luke Cage as a bar
owner in Hell’s Kitchen who is working to recover from the death of his wife,
Reva. He meets and begins a relationship
with Jessica Jones, though this falls apart when he learns that Jess was
responsible for his wife’s death. However,
due to Kilgrave’s obsession with Jess, Luke gets controlled by Kilgrave and
used as a weapon against her. He is
forced to blow up his bar before attacking her, an attack which she only
stopped by shooting him pointblank in the face with a shotgun. Claire Temple helped Jess patch him up again,
and Luke left to return home to Harlem.
Season Synopsis:
Given superstrength and durability by a sabotaged experiment, a wrongly accused man escapes prison to become a superhero for hire
Continuing plot points:
- Who is Luke Cage?
- How did Luke Cage receive his powers?
- Luke Cage’s motivations for doing what he does
- Setting up The Defenders, which will unite all the heroes in Hell’s Kitchen
What I am looking for:
- Good villains
- Misty Knight—her role will probably be a cross between Trish Walker in Jessica Jones and Frank Castle in Daredevil season 2: not a full-on hero, but moving in that direction
- Considering Marvel's penchant for removing arms...
- I expect Danny Rand/Iron Fist to make some sort of appearance in Luke Cage, even if it’s just a glorified Easter egg in the finale
- There will be at least some reference to Jessica Jones, even if she herself doesn’t appear
What would be awesome but probably
won’t happen:
Colleen Wing makes a surprise
appearance, setting up a Daughters of the Dragon arc for Iron Fist and The
Defenders
So what are you looking for in
tonight’s episode? What is there that
you really want to see but may not see at all?
