Weekly MCU Review for 9/5

Another week, and more MCU news!  There was a major shakeup at Marvel Studios… oh, and some other stuff happened with movies and TV series!  Put some ketchup on your eggs, and catch-up (*ducks*) on your Marvel news!

Mostly MCU Reviews

My articles from the week

All my articles for this week were reviews.  First up, Agent Carter season 1, episode 5, “The Iron Ceiling” (a.k.a. “The Howling Commandos Episode”).  What did you think of this episode?  Do you want to see the Howling Commandos in season 2?

For Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, this week’s reviews were episode 7, “The Writing on the Wall,” and episode 8, “The Things We Bury.”  Only one week of “retro AoS reviews” to go!

Huge news broke Tuesday:  Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment are now separate, with Kevin Feige leading Marvel Studios and reporting directly to Disney boss Alan Horn.  And now his “creative committee” is gone, too.  It sounds like this is only going to make things better on the film side of the MCU because Ike Perlmutter (CEO of Marvel Entertainment) had some major disagreements and conflicts with Kevin Feige (c.f. Iron Man 2) and the committee was slow in returning its notes to the directors and producers.  However, as someone who absolutely loves what’s been going on with Marvel TV, I’m somewhat concerned about having Marvel TV and Marvel Studios not connected on the organizational flowchart (Marvel TV is still a division of Marvel Entertainment, along with the comics and animation).  Hopefully Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are still going to be working together to keep the MCU nice and cohesive.  What do you think of this shake-up?

Another update from the Marvel reorganization:  Kevin Feige reportedly nearly quit during Civil War production over disagreements about that movie’s budget.  Wow.

Hulk will not be appearing in Captain America: Civil War, after all.  He was originally included, but no longer.  It makes sense that they wouldn’t want him in there; they got rid of him in the comics before Civil War for the same reason.  Are you disappointed?

What do you think of this rumor (spoilers) about Civil War and Spider-Man?  I’m not sure how I feel:  it could be done well, but it might also not be done well…

Along those same lines, here is a potential major spoiler:  Tom Holland’s first-ever Spider-Man suit!

Something Chris Evans can add to his resume:  he’s the actor Stan Lee has bonded with the most from all his Marvel movie and TV involvement.  What Marvel actor would you most like to meet?

Do you think Cap’s team is overpowered for Civil War?  Chris Evans doesn’t think so.

Chris Evans said this week that he would be willing to re-up his contract after his sixth film.  Do you think this has anything to do with the reorganization, or just an actor who really loves what he’s doing?

Thor: Ragnarok and Captain Marvel may be filmed in Australia.  What do you think?  Do you think it will have any effect on the plot of the movies?

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. released a teaser trailer for season 3.  There are several Inhumans in there, including our first look at Lash.  What do you think?

Agent Carter season 2 started filming this week.  What do you want to see this January?

And just like that, Sousa’s the Chief of the S.S.R. for Agent Carter season 2.  What do you think of this news?

The Dubsmash War between Team Carter and Team S.H.I.E.L.D. has officially kicked off.  Where’s your vote going?

This picture has me a bit jealous:  Jon Bernthal with the tools of his trade (meaning 39+ firearms).

I’m no expert, but he’s got a few AK variants, a couple bullpup AR rifles, a ton of standard AR/M16-style rifles, an FN P90 (just to his right), a couple handguns (one looking like it has a silencer), and a whole bunch more I can’t recognize.  I think the Punisher is now officially my new hero!

Another casting announcement for Daredevil season 2:  Stephen Rider as District Attorney Blake Tower.  Which upcoming Marvel Netflix series/season are you most looking forward to?

Casting is really starting to heat up for Luke Cage.  Theo Rossi has reportedly been cast to play a villain, and Rosario Dawson will be back yet again as Claire Temple.  Also, Simone Missick will be playing “Missy” (Misty Knight) and Mahershala Ali (someone named their child after Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz (Isaiah 8)?  That’s awesome!) will be playing Cornell Cottonmouth.  What do you think of these casting announcements?  Do you think Misty Knight’s inclusion means that Iron Fist (her husband and baby daddy in the comics) will also be appearing?

Okay, someone must have been having fun when they picked the production name for Luke Cage:  Tiara.”  (Oh, and the same link notes that other series have entered production as well, including Marvel's Most WantedIf you don’t know why that’s so fitting, just click on the link.  The jokes just write themselves:  “Only a man with bulletproof skin can rock a tiara.”  “You really don’t want to diss the man’s tiara.”  Do you want to see him wearing a tiara, even as a gag reference?

News from Around Geekdom

Anything not related to the MCU that I find interesting

Interesting:  the idea for the Hulk came from Jack Kirby witnessing a woman lifting a car off a baby.  That’s pretty cool.

And the all-new Totally-Awesome Hulk is… Amadeus Cho!  What do you think of this announcement?

You know your Marvel movie is bad when not only does Stan Lee not have a cameo but he hasn’t even seen it a month after the premiere.  What do you think FOX should do with the Fantastic Four?

Would you like to see Liev Schreiber return as “Old Man Sabertooth” for Old Man Logan?

Wonder Woman will begin production soon under the production title “Nightingale.”  Are you excited for it?

Arrow has been teasing Hal Jordan like crazy for season 4.  Do you think Green Lantern will play a role?  If so, how much?

Even if Green Lantern doesn’t appear on Arrow, there will be another masked/helmeted hero:  Diggle’s getting a costume.  What do you think?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will feature a superweapon that makes the Death Stars pale by comparison:  the Starkiller.  SR thinks it sounds a lot like the Sun Crusher from the Expanded Universe, and I kind of agree.  What do you think the Starkiller is going to be?

Ahsoka Tano will be going on a mission to learn more about the Sith and Darth Vader in Star Wars Rebels season 2.  This can’t possibly end well for her.  How do you think the inevitable confrontation will go?

The Star Trek fan film Axanar has raised over a half-million dollars from fundraisers to go toward production.  Wow.  What would your fan film be?
