San Diego Comic-Con 2015 EXPECTATIONS

Well, San Diego Comic-Con starts tomorrow with a preview tonight.  Unfortunately, Marvel Studios (among others) has elected not to attend this year… I guess they must have learned that I’m not going to be there and planned accordingly!  I can just imagine the Board meeting where it happened:

Kevin Feige:  So, are we agreed?  We’ll bring the whole cast of Ant-Man and show the entire movie in Hall H.  Then we’ll bring out the cast of Captain America: Civil War and let Robert and Chris go a few rounds in an impromptu boxing match, followed by showing the first official trailer to the movie.  And then just for grins we’ll introduce the cast of Avengers: Infinity War!  Hall H will literally explode!

Intern (running in, breathless):  Mr. Feige!  Mr. Feige!  Terrible news:  the MCUReviewer is not going to be at Comic-Con this year.

Feige:  Are you serious?  That’s the whole reason we’ve been going in the first place:  just in case a random blogger who just started a blog this year would be there!

Intern:  Sir…?

Feige:  Well, I guess we’re not going to Comic-Con this year, folks.  Time to pack it in.

Intern:  Seriously?  Because of one random blogger?

Feige:  Are you questioning Feige the Great and Powerful???

Intern:  Umm… don’t you mean something like “The Fantastic Feige,” sir?

Feige:  What?

Intern:  Well, it’s just that “Feige the Great and Powerful” sounds like a Wizard of Oz sequel, but “The Fantastic Feige” sounds like a Marvel property.

Feige:  Didn’t you get the memo?  We are removing the word “fantastic” from our dictionary until the heretics at Fox come to their senses, restore the Fantastic Four rights to their rightful owners, and return to the Universal Church of Truth!

Intern:  Ummm…

Feige:  Silence!

Yeah… because that’s definitely the way it went!  (Attention:  If anyone from Marvel comes across this, it is only intended for humor, not as a reflection of how I think this decision-making process went.  And if this somehow is the way it went… I swear I don’t have a listening device planted in your office behind the poster of the original Avengers team!)

Anyways, Marvel Studios isn’t going to be there, but that doesn’t mean we’re not going to get any Marvel news this weekend.  Marvel TV and Marvel Comics will both be there.  So here are my expectations for Comic-Con—at least on the Marvel side of things.

Marvel Comics

Expectations:

  • More new artwork for all of the new rebooted series coming post-Secret Wars
  • Information about some of the notable absences from the comic book lineup
  • Information on how they are going to fill in that missing 8 months

What would be awesome but probably won’t happen:

  • The announcement of a new Spider-Man Prelude comic mini-series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and serving as a lead-in to Captain America: Civil War.

            Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Expectations:
  • Further casting announcements
  • More pictures and concept art
  • Some new information about the Secret Warriors
  • Perhaps some test footage for season 3

What would be awesome but probably won’t happen:
  • Introduction of the full Secret Warriors team
  • A movie-type poster with the full Secret Warriors team on it
  • Clark Gregg comes out on stage wearing the prosthetic he will use for his cybernetic arm
    • Note:  I’m assuming that at the end of the day they will go with a prosthetic he wears rather than full-on CGI

Agent Carter

Expectations:
  • Casting announcements for the returning cast members—specifically Thompson and Angie
  • Concept art for the season
  • More information about the villains for season 2—perhaps even namedropping 1 of them

What would be awesome but probably won’t happen:
  • They get up on stage with the cast, and 2 new cast members come out:  one playing Heinrich Zemo (main villain and grandfather of the Captain America: Civil War villain) and the other playing Namor the Sub-Mariner (antagonist who comes to an agreement with the S.S.R./S.H.I.E.L.D.)

            Other

Expectations:
  • Information about whether or not there will be a third network TV series set in the MCU this TV season

What would be awesome but probably won’t happen:
  • A surprise appearance by showrunners and cast for a Ms. Marvel TV series which will begin in January or February 2016

Marvel Netflix

Jessica Jones Season 1

Expectations:
  • Further information about the cast and season arc
  • Trailer
  • Release date (preferably in October or November (or earlier))
  • Character posters along the same lines as the Daredevil season 1 posters

What would be awesome but probably won’t happen:
  • They reveal a poster for Patsy Walker in which she is wearing a Hellcat suit and announce the casting of Daimon Hellstrom to appear in Jessica Jones season 1, setting up the two of them to appear in their own Son of Satan Netflix series after The Defenders

            Daredevil Season 2

Expectations:
  • Further information on the season, specifically the villain(s)
  • Casting announcements for Elektra and/or Bullseye if one or the other he is appearing in season 2
    • Was anyone else surprised they announced Elodie Yung’s casting as Elektra yesterday instead of waiting for Comic-Con?
  • New character posters for Punisher and Daredevil (and Elektra)
  • Q&A with the cast, including Punisher and Elektra
  • A tentative release month

What would be awesome but probably won’t happen:
  • Test footage for Punisher and Daredevil’s first interaction
  • An announcement that Daredevil is joining the cast of Captain America: Civil War

          Other

Expectations:
  • Further information about Luke Cage, including some casting announcements
  • An announcement that Punisher will be joining The Defenders

What would be awesome but probably won’t happen:
  • Showrunner and lead announcements for Iron Fist
  • Showrunners for The Defenders being announced
  • Announcement of a Ghost Rider, Punisher, or Blade Netflix series to be released following The Defenders in 2017

So these are my expectations for Comic-Con 2015.  What do you most want to see from Comic-Con?  Are you excited about the Elektra casting announcement?  Let me know in the comments!
