Mostly MCU Reviews
My articles from
the week
First up is my review
of Daredevil season 1, episode 12, “The Ones We Leave Behind.”
Here
is the first part of what is now a four-part series looking ahead to the Secret
Warriors on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Who do you want to see on the team?
Reviews of Agents
of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episodes 11, “The Magical Place,”
and 12, “Seeds.” What was your favorite part of AoS
season 1?

According to a
recently-released viral news report, cyber-criminal Scott Lang is about to be
released from prison. Do you like this marketing tactic?
This may be considered
a spoiler—or a “no, duh”—but stay after the credits
for Ant-Man.
From the realm of “no,
duh” comes Kevin Feige’s confirmation
that Marvel has definite plans for the Wasp in the MCU.
Here
is an interview with Michael Douglas.
Forget about an Ant-Man
sequel, Peyton Reed is talking prequel! Would you be interested in a prequel focusing
on Hank Pym? I know I would!
Still on the fence
about Ant-Man? Does it help to
know that James Gunn thinks it’s his favorite Marvel movie since the first Iron
Man?
Sadly, Hulk is not a
“primary part”
of Captain America: Civil War.
But Feige hasn’t exactly slammed the door shut of his possible
involvement, so…
However, Black Panther
will
be a key player in CA:CW both as a third-party independent of the
Avengers and as someone who is new to the hero mantle and discovering himself
as a ruler and hero. What new character
are you most excited to see in CA:CW?
Black Panther? Spider-Man? Dare I say… Red Hulk? Or maybe even Wasp?
The Godfather of
Marvel himself, Stan Lee, approves
of Tom Holland as Spider-Man.
So according to Kevin
Feige, Doctor Strange is going to embrace the “weirdness” of the comics. What upcoming MCU movie are you most excited
about?
Guardians of the
Galaxy 2 now has an official title: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. I like this title for its double
entendre: first, the fact that comic
collections are released in volumes; second, the fact that at the end of the
first one Quill received the “Awesome Mix Vol. 2”—it’s a music term, too. It’s not a terribly exciting title, but I
think it sets the right tone. What do
you think?
GotGV2 will
also be a more emotional story
than the first one. Of course, we
already kind of knew that.
Benicio Del Toro wants to return
as the Collector for Guardians of the Galaxy 2. He really seems to be into this
character. Do you want to see him “weird
it up” again in the sequel?
James Gunn did yet
another Q&A session this week
about a whole bunch of different things.
Among others, the possibility of a Runaways movie. Would you want to see that after Infinity
War? I sure would.
Now that we have an
actor and director for the Spider-Man reboot, there is going to be a lot
of news coming out about the movie.
Kevin Feige’s goal
is for this Spider-Man to be as faithful as possible to the comics. Here
is some information suggesting that the movie will focus on the high school
drama and introduce “villains we haven’t seen before.” And here
is Feige’s explanation of what will set this one apart from the last 2: youth and MCU.
So next on the docket
for announcements is Thor: Ragnarok.
Specifically, we should be getting casting and director announcements
this summer. Also, Feige has said we will start seeing TV characters cross over to the movies soon,
so could my Lorelei theory be accurate?
What movies would you
like to see set in the MCU’s past? My vote would be to fill in Cap’s World War
II service and bring in the Invaders.
Marvel Studios will be busy
next summer…
Edwin Jarvis and Agent
Daniel Sousa will be joining
Peggy in Agent Carter season 2.
Thus far these are the only confirmations about season 2 beyond the LA
setting. Here
is some information from the showrunners about what to expect.
Wondering why we haven’t
heard anything about Iron Fist lately?
According to this rumor
Marvel is having some trouble figuring out just how they want to bring him to
the screen. I’m already thinking about a
response, but I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on what Marvel should
do.
So here
is some explanation from Kevin Feige as to why we haven’t gotten any Marvel
One-Shots in a while. Do you want to see
more?
News from Around
Geekdom
Anything not
related to the MCU that I find interesting
Marvel may be starting
up a new Spaceknights series soon. Could this be another post-Secret Wars
series? (Yes)
Spider-Woman is going
to be very pregnant
when Marvel relaunches post-Secret Wars.
Well, huh. That brings up a lot
of questions, to say the least.
What do you think of
this new Spidey suit
and Spider-Mobile?
And then this
drops. Wow, that’s a lot of new series
announcements all at once. Among other
things, there’s a ton of Spider-(Wo)Men.
Which are you most excited for?
WB has decided to
slide it’s DC-Vertigo movies over to New Line Cinema. Does this mean they won’t be part of the
DCMU? Also, Guillermo del Toro left Justice
League Dark. To be completely
honest, the most interesting thing about that movie to me would be if they work
Matt Ryan’s Constantine into it and pick up elements from Constantine
season 1.
Justice League Part
1 has a script
already. Are you excited for it?
So here
is Ben Affleck’s take on the difference between Marvel and DC movies. Do you agree with Batfleck?
Warning: Don’t search for Aquaman
online.
Interesting Star
Wars: The Force Awakens rumors coming out this week. Are you excited for December?
On top of those rumors
comes this release
with more information about what happened between Episode VI and Episode
VII. Apparently the Moffs and Generals
stepped in to keep the Empire together based simply on the might of the
Imperial Starfleet. Too bad; I liked all
of the EU stories where the Emperor’s fall led to the birth of the small but
growing New Republic.
So… do you want to see
a Top Gun sequel? Exploring drone technology and its impact on
military tactics sounds like an interesting premise—one that’s already been explored—but it does have me
tentatively interested.
Has Disney finally
lost its mind? They are seriously
developing a movie based on Charles Darwin. Yeah, no.
Do you want to see a Hellboy III? I haven’t watched the second one, but I
enjoyed the first one, so I’m at least interested.
Star Trek Beyond. Are you excited for it? I’ve been watching The Original Series
on Netflix, and I have to say, it’s insanely campy at times. That being said, I like that at least parts
of Star Trek (the reboot movie) are so much more realistic than The
Original Series was. Excuse me; I’ll
be in my bunker to avoid the flying produce!
In case you forgot
about it TMNT2 is currently filming, and there are some new details emerging. What do you think of it?
So did you know that Daredevil
(the movie) stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner were married? Well, you didn’t miss anything; they’re
getting a divorce. Divorce is never a good thing.
Why is this
happening? Why???
Why is this
happening?
Did you know this
was coming out? Am I the only one who
missed that news? Evidently I’m going to
be seeing it next February—by which I mean my wife really wants to see it now!
