Weekly MCU Review for 7/2

Another week, and more MCU news!  A lot of rumors, but not a lot of specific news.  Put some ketchup on your eggs, and catch-up on your Marvel news!

My articles from the week

First up for the week is my review of Captain America: The First Avenger.

Next, my thoughts on where Foggy’s characters could go after Daredevil season 2.  Do you want to see a “Superhuman Law Office” in the Marvel Netflix universe?

Captain America: Civil War will be available on DVD/Blu-Ray on September 13, with the digital version available September 2!  I will definitely pick it up; will you?

At this point it is unknown if this belongs in this section or the next one, but Sony is supposedly interested in a Silver Sable movie, based on the Spider-Man antiheroine who leads a pack of mercenaries.  We don’t know yet if this would be set in the MCU or not (like that stupid Spidey-less-Venom movie “idea”), but for myself, I probably won’t see it if it isn’t set in the MCU.  Would you?

Another exciting rumor revolves around the possibility of a Marvel/FOX collaboration.  There isn’t any real news of what this would involve, but my hope is that it will be an MCU-set version of the Fantastic Four (with Marvel getting creative control).  This would be a good way to get the two studios working together, and the Fantastic Four might actually be a good way for the X-Men to find their way into the MCU (by means of extra-dimensional travel, a specialty of the Fantastic Four).  Is this something you would be interested in seeing?

Daredevil season 1 received a Saturn Award for Best New Media TV Series.  Ant-Man also won a Saturn Award, this one for Best Comic-to-Film Motion Picture.  Cool!

We only have to wait about 2½ months for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to return on September 20, in a later timeslot (10 PM Eastern).  That feels really long, but it will probably pass rather quickly.  In the meantime we do have Comic-Con to look forward to.

There are some really interesting casting calls and rumors for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.:  they are casting a female Life-Model Decoy named Aida (the one that Ratcliffe was working on at the end of the season 3 finale), as well as a pair of Latino brothers rumored to be Robbie and Gabe Reyes.  Robbie Reyes is the most recent incarnation of Ghost Rider, which would be pretty wild:  Ghost Rider on a TV effects budget.  This probably doesn’t rule out a future appearance by the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider on Netflix, but it would definitely strain the budget for AoS, at least if he goes all Ghost Rider too often!  I wonder if they will make anything of the comic book relationship between James (J.T.) Slade (a.k.a. Hellfire) and the original Ghost Rider, Carter Slade.

Anything not related to the MCU that I find interesting

In addition to a price increase to $10/month, Netflix is also looking into making some content available to download for offline viewing.
