Weekly MCU Review for March 18

Another week, and more MCU news!  Iron Fist came out yesterday.  And Sony is still trying to make a Venom movie—whether or not it’s in the MCU is still not known.  Put some ketchup on your eggs, and catch-up on your Marvel news!

Mostly MCU Reviews

My articles from the week

Just two articles this week, both focused on Iron Fist.  The first is a “Too Long; Didn’t Watch” summary of everything Marvel TV up to this point.  The second is my expectations for the show.  I’m a third of the way through now, so I will probably get my non-spoiler review of the first half published today or tomorrow, with the second half coming on Tuesday or so.

I’m not sure at the moment if this goes in the “MCU News” category or the “News from Around Geekdom” category, but Sony is moving forward with a Venom movie after all.  It is currently set for an October 5, 2018, release.  However, there is no information yet as to whether it will be part of the MCU.  If it is, that would be awesome.  If it is not, someone at Sony has clearly lost their mind.  We’ve already seen that they can’t really do the character justice (c.f. Spider-Man 3) and that they’ve really lost their independent Spider-Man mojo (c.f. Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man 2)

After all the negative initial reviews, Finn Jones defended Iron Fist to Metro by saying that it was made for the fans.  While that is always the case, you also hope that the story will meet critical approval, as well.

This isn’t terribly surprising.  The appearance of Shou-Lao was one of my biggest concerns about Iron Fist, given the show’s TV budget.  I’m honestly still surprised that they are going to put a guy with ox legs, a fish-person, and a freaking giant dog on TV with Marvel’s Inhumans!  Now let’s just hope they do it well…

Here is at least one definite connection between Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Marvel’s Inhumans:  the Kree writing will feature on Inhumans.  That definitely makes sense.

News from Around Geekdom

Anything not related to the MCU that I find interesting

So Aquaman is getting pushed back to December 2018.

Christine Adams (Agent Weaver on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) is going to play Jefferson’s ex-wife on Black Lightning.

Does anyone other than Warner Bros. want to see a Matrix reboot?
