Another week, and more
MCU news! Habemus Spider-Man!
Oh, and there’s also a ton of news about Marvel Comics post-Secret
Wars, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3, Ant-Man… There was a lot of news last week!
Put some ketchup on your eggs, and catch-up (*ducks*) on your Marvel news!
Mostly MCU Reviews
My articles from
the week
First up, Daredevil
season 1, episode 11, “The Path of the Righteous”
review.
Next is my concept
for a Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan) TV series which would premiere alongside Agent
Carter and run concurrently with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
season 1, episode 9, “Repairs”
and episode 10, “The Bridge”
reviews. What was your favorite episode
from the first half of AoS season 1?
Thursday I published
my final Spider-Man article, this time dealing with the question of MCU-set spinoffs. Which do you want to see?
Finally, I’m going to
start putting ads on my blog. If you have any issues with them (loading,
content, etc.), please let me know!

Marvel has found its Spider-Man! 19-year-old Tom Holland will be suiting up as
the Web-Head! Reportedly he had a screen
test with RDJ and Chris Evans
as part of the casting process. Look here
for an insider scoop on how it all went down.
At the same time as the casting announcement, we also get the news
that Jon Watts will direct the next Spider-Man movie (though we still don't have an official title). Are you excited about all of this news?
Coming on the heels of
the casting announcement comes the report that Tom Holland will be getting a
brief cameo in Captain America: Civil War. In fact, he is reporting to the set
immediately. Are you surprised? Are you just excited about it?
The Tom Holland
casting is drawing praise from Ron Howard, his In the Heart of the Sea
director.
In somewhat
unsurprising news (for anyone who’s followed his previous interviews), Kevin
Feige provided some insight into the Spider-Man reboot without actually
saying anything concrete.
Here’s
an interview with Peyton Reed talking about Ant-Man, Civil War,
and the possibility of a sequel. It’s
interesting how much collaboration Reed had with the Russo brothers about
Ant-Man’s part in Civil War.
Screenrant
also has some information about the role Wasp will play in Ant-Man. Just be careful of some possible spoilers!
Screenrant
interviewed Paul Rudd and Corey Stoll about their costumes for Ant-Man. I was surprised to read that they never
created an actual Yellowjacket suit; the whole thing is CGI. Would you have preferred it be real, or do
you like the use of CGI?
Here’s
yet another interview about Ant-Man, this time with Kevin Feige himself.
Here’s
still another interview with Evangeline Lilly.
Apparently her part was greatly expanded in the rewrites. Are you glad she’s going to play more or a
role? Do you want to see her take up her
mother’s mantle as the Wasp? Personally,
I’d love to see Hope become the Wasp and play a role in Civil War
alongside Scott—maybe the two of them end up on opposite sides (though from
what we can gather so far I think they would align more with Cap).
So apparently Paul
Rudd and the others considered the possibility of having Ant-Man fight an Avenger at one point during the movie. Is that something you would want to see?
According to the
analysts, Ant-Man is currently tracking for a $55-60 million opening weekend. That would be pretty low; the last one that
low was The Incredible Hulk.
Initial reactions are
coming in, calling Ant-Man “good, but not great.” I’m still really excited for it, though.
Paul Rudd is being
honored with a star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame on July 1. Congratulations to him!
Continuing that train
of thought, Charlie Cox received a Helen Keller Achievement Award from the
American Foundation for the Blind for his portrayal of Daredevil. It’s amazing just how much of an impact a
comic book character can have on the culture.
Last week it was the Shadow in London; this week it’s Charlie Cox
talking about people losing their sight who gain inspiration from Matt Murdock.
William Hurt is
talking a bit about General Ross’ role in Captain America: Civil War,
specifically that this will be a “new version” of the character. Are we going to see the Red Hulk?
Christine Everhart is
coming back to the MCU in Captain America: Civil War. Are you excited to see her again?
Doctor Strange
is starting production
in London.
A rumor suggests that
Marvel is in the process of casting The Magus for Avengers: Infinity War
Part 1. Does this mean that Adam Warlock will be
showing up as well?
Does Marvel want
Beyoncé for a movie? What hero do you think she could play?
Here
is the list of Saturn Award winners, including Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel released a new
promo for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3:

Can you keep a
secret? Are they just screaming “Secret
Warriors! Secret Warriors!” here? (Yes. Yes, they are.)
And just like that,
Secret Warriors is confirmed.

Rumor has it that the Daredevil season 2 showrunners are calling it “Daredevil vs. Punisher.” So does that mean that there will be three “vs.” movies/shows coming out next year with Civil War, Batman v. Superman, and Daredevil season 2?
News from Around
Geekdom
Anything not
related to the MCU that I find interesting
Wolverine is seemingly
confirmed
for X-Men: Apocalypse, though we don’t have any details on how much of a
role he will play. What do you want to
see Wolverine doing in this movie?
Do you want to see the
X-Men and Fantastic Four crossover? If
the two franchises do well in their next movies, they could cross over in 2018.
Post-Secret Wars
comic series announcements:
- Doctor Strange (Unsurprisingly)
- Captain Marvel will have the Agent Carter showrunners writing it. Could there be a connection there?
- Peter Parker will maybe be the “other Spider-Man.” A world with 2 Spider-Men: what do you think of that idea? Do you think this is a test to see if there’s room for Miles Morales and Peter Parker in the MCU? Do you want to see both of them in the MCU (or comics) at the same time?
- Spider-Gwen. So there are going to be three direct Spider-Man spinoff characters in the All-New, All-Different Marvel Comics after Secret Wars… and that’s not including Spider-Woman! They are really tripling-down on their Spider-Characters!
- The Avengers. This time around they don’t have the same resources, which should make the series interesting.
- Squadron Supreme (which was originally a JLA knock-off for the Avengers to fight)
- The All-New Hulk
- Ant-Man
- The Uncanny Inhumans, now including Beast and Human Torch
In other news, Jared
Leto is starting to actually turn into the Joker! Should we be frightened?
So the rumors of young
Kirk playing Steve Trevor were apparently greatly exaggerated and he may
instead be playing Hal Jordan. Which role would you rather see him in?
And speaking of Green
Lanterns, the 2020 movie may be featuring multiple human Lanterns. And Tyrese Gibson is hinting that he might be
John Stewart. Which Lantern are you most excited to see?
So Ben Affleck might
be directing the next Batman movie as well as starring in it,
and it will be coming out in November 2018.
Excited for this news?
The CW is working on a
Hawkgirl series set within its DCTVU and starring Ciara Renee, who is
playing the character on Legends of Tomorrow. Are you interested?
The CW announced
premiere dates for Flash and Arrow, both in October. Are you excited to see them come back?
So how interested are
you in Gotham? Will that change
with Tigress on
the way in season 2?
Star Trek 3 has
barely started production, and Paramount is already exercising its option on
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto for Star Trek 4. Wow, are they confident. Do you think that confidence is warranted?
One Enterprise-ing
(*ducks*) fan is living the dream by getting to pitch his new Star Trek series, Star Trek Uncharted to Paramount Pictures. Congratulations to him, and I hope they will
pick it up!
Independence Day 2—titled
Independence Day: Resurgence—released a few set images and some new information. Are you excited for this sequel?
According to Greg
Grunberg (who has an undisclosed role in the movie), Star Wars: The Force
Awakens will have everything a fan could want in a Star Wars movie. Are you excited for December?
Ewan McGregor wants to
return as Obi-Wan, but without a hilted lightsaber. Would you like to see an Obi-Wan Anthology
film set between Episodes III and IV?
Indiana Jones beat out Batman and the Joker in a greatest movie characters poll… and the two of them
were also beat out by Han Solo and James Bond. So 2 Harrison Ford characters made the top
3. Does that surprise you?
The C.S. Lewis Company
is moving forward with their next movie, The Silver Chair. Are you interested? Personally, I loved the first movie and did
not like the second one. I never saw the
third one, and nothing I have read or heard about it has made me regret that
decision. It’s too bad that such a promising
first movie was destroyed by such terrible sequels.
J.K. Rowling is
working on the next installment in the Harry Potter franchise, this time
a play titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Are you interested in seeing it?
