This week Marvel
Studios announced four new movies: Ant-Man
and The Wasp and 3 untitled movies in 2020.
I wasn’t going to do this at first, but I decided to write a quick post
with my idea of what those three untitled movies will be, as well as what I think
Ant-Man and The Wasp will be about.
Ant-Man and The
Wasp, July 6, 2018
I think this movie
will be an adaptation of the story arc in the comics in which Janet went to the
Microverse. In the comics, Janet nearly
exploded during the Secret War against the Skrulls when she used re-designed Pym
Particles that turned her into a “bio-bomb.”
However, Janet was actually transported to the Microverse, where she
lived for a few years before Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, and Giant-Man
saved her.
I suspect that in the
movie, Scott’s Ant-Man and Hope’s Wasp will take the place of the Avengers in
shrinking down to enter the Microverse and search for Janet. One of the villains could be the Lord Gouzar
character who served as the villain for that comic book arc.
I also think that
Cassie Lang will be involved and will start experimenting with Pym Particles
herself, setting her up to become Stature in the near future.

New Avengers,
May 1, 2020
This movie will kick
off Phase 4 of the MCU, in which the Marvel Universe will deal with all the
destruction and mayhem caused by the Infinity War. However, an equally-important theme of Phase
4 will be the repopulation of the Earth’s heroes. As such, what better way to kick it off than
with a team of “New Avengers,” new heroes (teens and twenties) who were
inspired to become heroes after watching the Avengers fight and defeat Thanos?
Most of these
characters would be entirely new to the MCU, though at least a couple would be
surviving Avengers serving as mentors and leaders for the new heroes.
Infinity Watch,
July 10, 2020
After the defeat of
Thanos, it will be important for the heroes of the universe to decide what to
do with the Infinity Stones and Infinity Gauntlet. This movie will focus on Adam Warlock (or
Vision, if he’s taking Warlock’s place as “resident dude with an Infinity Stone
in his head”) putting together a group to protect the Infinity Stones and
prevent them from falling into the wrong hands.
Nova,
November 6, 2020
I wasn’t entirely sure
what to put in this slot; I also considered a different new hero such as Blue
Marvel, Black Captain America, Ms. Marvel, and the like. Ultimately, I definitely think that at least
one of these 2020 movies will be a solo film for an entirely new hero because
that will run the least risk of spoiling anything for Avengers: Infinity War. You’ll notice that this is really the only
movie title which gives a hero’s name; the other two are team flicks without
any team members listed. That is
intentional, as announcing movie titles can spoil who survives Infinity War;
that’s kind of what happened with Avengers: Age of Ultron.
In this movie, the
Nova Corps would have to rebuild following the devastation wrought by
Thanos. Among other things, they would
tap into the Nova Force and use it to give their officers the various abilities
we know from the comics. Alternatively,
this movie could introduce Richard Rider or Sam Alexander (or both) as new
Novas based on Earth who need to figure out their new powers.
Conclusion
So that’s my guesses
for the four newly-announced MCU movies.
Sorry it’s so short on details; it’s pretty much just something I came
up with in an hour. What do you
think? What are your guesses for the new
movies? Let me know in the comments!
