on your eggs, and catch-up (*ducks*) on your Marvel news!
Mostly MCU Reviews
My articles from
the week
First up for the week
is my review of Daredevil episode 7, “Stick.” What did you think of the episode?
This week for my “Retro-Reviews” I reviewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episodes 1—“Pilot”—and
2—“0-8-4”. What did you think of them at the time? Has your opinion changed?
Here is an article I started working on
after seeing Avengers: Age of
Ultron. How are teams put together in the MCU? I have some thoughts, but I’d love to hear
yours.
I’m not going to link a lot of ScreenRant
opinion pieces on the Weekly Review, but I think this one needs further discussion. According to SR’s Anthony Ocasio, there’s a feud going between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV. Do you think that’s the case? I really don’t buy it, as I pointed out in my response;
I think a lot of his “evidence” is just pointing out the challenges of putting
together a coherent universe spanning multiple media. Of course Marvel Studios isn’t going to want AoS showing the Winter Soldier fighting Ant-Man; that’s something that
will happen in the films if at all—and which would completely screw up the
chronology in any event. Certain
characters are going to be saved for the films.
That doesn’t mean there’s a “feud” between Marvel’s TV and film
branches.

That was fast! Frank Grillo is already done with his filming for Captain America: Civil War. You should already know that he plays Brock
Rumlow, aka Crossbones. So does this
mean that he’s only in one sequence? Is
he going to be defeated early on in the movie?
I’m hoping he is going to survive the movie, but if his death furthers
the plot—and causes the Civil War—so be it. Update from later in the week: maybe Crossbones is not done with Captain America: Civil War.
Agents of
S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 will be on Netflix starting Thursday, June 11,
which should give you 3 months to watch it (or rewatch it). I may be able to review all of season 1
before August; if I do, I will try to get through the first 10 episodes of
season 2 this summer before season 3 begins.
If not, I’ll use season 2 reviews (and Agent Carter season 1
reviews) to fill weeks that AoS takes off. Are you going to binge-watch AoS
season 2 the moment it comes out on Netflix?
Here’s some new
information on Agent Carter season 2. Among other things, season 2 will have 2 more
episodes. However, that begs the
question: How will they fit them in? My guess is that the premiere and finale will
both be double episodes at a minimum.
Bring in ALL the Avengers! According to rumors, Ant-Man may
include appearances by Falcon and some other New Avengers. What do you think of this possibility? Personally, I would love to see the New
Avengers in action before Civil War breaks them up.
Emma Stone is
interested in reprising her role as Gwen Stacy for a Spider-Gwen spinoff
if that’s ever in the cards. Considering that Sony is bringing Spider-Man
into the MCU now, however, do you think a Spider-Gwen movie is a
possibility? I would not be averse if
they brought her into a Spider-verse event movie sometime down the line, but
not right now.
Ant-Man is
starting to get a lot more press ahead of its July 17 premiere date. Here is an interview with Evangeline Lilly
about some of the differences between this version of the movie and Edgar Wright’s. Are you excited to see this? Did they lose you when Edgar Wright left the
project?
Did Asa Butterfield confirm that he’s been cast as Spider-Man by deleting posts on Reddit? Maybe, maybe not. We’ll let the future decide.
Do you want to see a
Lego set based on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? If you do, follow this link
and support this idea for a Lego set with Coulson, May, Lola, and the Bus. I wish the Bus figure were larger, but it’s
still cool. Of course, the last time I
collected Legos was back in high school…
From the realm of “No, Duh,” comes this
story: Marvel is taking a scientific approach to the Ant-Man suit. They need to be wearing the suits while
shrunken or they will die because the “When you shrink, the molecules in the
air are too big for your lungs.” I have
to admit, that was actually one of my first thoughts when I first heard about
Ant-Man! I’m curious to see how Pym
figured that out when he first discovered Pym Particles. Are you excited for July 17?
Elektra may be coming to the MCU! There were a couple of audition tapes posted
on and removed from Vimeo this week of women with exotic features reading for a
part which might be Elektra. Do you want
to see Elektra in Daredevil season 2?
Tilda Swinton is reportedly finalizing a deal to play the Ancient One in Doctor
Strange. What do you think? Do you like the casting or are you upset with
the gender switch?
Apparently Joss Whedon was toying with the
idea of Wakanda appearing in Avengers:
Age of Ultron and having Ultron
take the Vibranium directly from the mine.
Here
are some set designs for the Vibranium Mine. Would you have wanted to see Wakanda in Age of Ultron?
Another possible
alteration to Avengers: Age of Ultron.
There was going to be a memorial at Manhattan Park to the first
responders at the Battle of New York, and the Avengers were going to be honored at it. Oh, and Ultron was going to crash the
party. Would you have preferred that
Ultron introduction?
So according to James
Gunn, Fox owns both the Shi’ar and Kang the Conqueror. That stinks.
Which would you rather see Marvel Studios reacquire?
News from Around
Geekdom
Anything not
related to the MCU that I find interesting
News from DC: the Static Shock live-action webseries
might actually be moving forward, and rumor has it that Jaden Smith has been cast as the lead. I remember watching the animated Static
Shock as a kid; if this actually comes to fruition, I’d be interested to
see it. Are you interested in a
live-action Static Shock?
Channing Tatum is
opening up about the Gambit movie. It’s going to be an origin story, and it will
be faithful to the comics, but that’s about all we know right now. Are you excited for it?
More information is
coming out about Legends of Tomorrow. Are you going to watch it?
Batman showed up on
the set of Suicide Squad chasing the Joker. Excited to see Batman making a cameo in that
movie?
Oh, the humanity! One of the posters for Fant4stic shows
the Thing to have what might be brown eyes! To me that’s really not a huge deal; when
they hire an actor for a role I hope things like acting ability are more
important factors than eye color.
However, what do you think? Does
he need to have blue eyes?
Do you remember George
Miller’s canceled Justice League Mortal movie from 2009? Neither do I.
But that’s okay; there is a documentary planned to change that by exploring the project and why it was canceled. Would you watch it?
Fox is attempting a
reboot of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Are you interested in seeing them try again?
Karai will be showing up in TMNT 2. Excited?
James Kirk might be doubling as Steve Trevor. Do you want to see Chris Pine playing Wonder Woman’s
love interest?
From the realm of “Has
that ever been a good idea?” comes the Warcraft movie, coming to
theaters next July. Do you think it will be a good movie?
Andy Serkis will be playing “Supreme Leader Snoke” in Star Wars: The Force Awakens,
and he will be CG. How excited are you
for Episode VII?
Bumblebee might be the subject of a Transformers spinoff. Any interest?
Is William Shatner going to appear in the next Star Trek movie? Do you want to see him in the next Star
Trek movie?
Speaking of, the script for the next Star Trek is finished,
and only 4 weeks before filming is scheduled to start.
Deadpool has wrapped filming! Are you excited to see it next year?
Could The Legend of
Conan be the start of a Robert E. Howard Cinematic Universe? The producer sure thinks so. Do you think so?
So… no more Tron 3. Disappointed?
